About Golden Valley

Golden Valley is a first-ring suburb of Minneapolis in Hennepin County, positioned just west of downtown. The city spans roughly 10.2 square miles, with 15% dedicated to parks and nature reserves. Incorporated in 1886, Golden Valley sits adjacent to Minneapolis on its eastern border, with St. Louis Park to the south, Robbinsdale and Crystal to the north, and Plymouth to the west. Major highways including Minnesota 55 (Olson Memorial Highway), U.S. 169, Interstate 394, and Minnesota 100 run through or along Golden Valley's borders, connecting residents to the broader metro area. The city promotes itself as "minutes west of downtown" Minneapolis, offering urban proximity with suburban quiet. Golden Valley Road runs east-west through the city's center near City Hall, while Winnetka Avenue and Medicine Lake Road serve as key north-south corridors. Residents reference areas by landmarks rather than formal neighborhood names: the Bassett Creek area, the General Mills campus district, the Theodore Wirth Park edge on the east, and the western neighborhoods near Elm Creek. The city's character blends residential calm with significant corporate presence, creating a stable, mature community known as one of Minnesota's best suburbs.

Fresh Flowers, Short Drive

We're practically neighbors. From our Maple Grove warehouse location next to Keller Williams, most Golden Valley addresses are 15 to 20 minutes away on a typical day. We take U.S. Highway 169 south then Minnesota Highway 55 east, cutting across Golden Valley's heart near General Mills and City Hall. Our drivers know to avoid afternoon congestion on Highway 100 and the bottleneck at Olson Memorial Highway during the evening commute. When 169 backs up near the Medicine Lake Road interchange around 5 p.m., we use alternate routes through Winnetka Avenue or Golden Valley Road. Mid-morning and early afternoon offer the smoothest travel. Blooms reach their destination fresh, exactly as we arranged them.

Moments That Bloom Here

Golden Valley's community calendar creates natural occasions for flowers throughout the year:

Father Hennepin Festival (Second Weekend of June): Champlin's celebration at Mississippi Point Park has been a tradition since 1976, drawing Golden Valley residents across the river for parades, carnival rides, and fireworks. Families often bring celebratory bouquets for festival gatherings.

Run the Valley (April): This annual 5K and 10K race raises funds for local human services. Finishing touches like award bouquets or post-race breakfast centerpieces mark this community celebration each spring.

Golden Valley Festival (September): Held at Brookview Park, this city festival features live music, art vendors, and food trucks. Community booth decorations and event centerpieces enhance the festivities.

Taste & Tour of Golden Valley (October): The Golden Valley Rotary Club hosts this food event featuring local restaurants. Table arrangements and serving displays add elegance to the tasting experience.

Breck School Graduation (Late May): This prestigious school's commencement ceremony marks an important milestone for families. Congratulatory bouquets and leis celebrate graduates' achievements.

Holiday Tree Lighting (Early December): The city's annual tree-lighting ceremony at City Hall includes seasonal festivities. Poinsettias and winter arrangements decorate community gathering spaces during this tradition.

About Donato's Floral

Victor Donato and his sister opened their first shop in a converted drugstore in Crystal-Robbinsdale in 1988. Victor was 24 with no formal training, just natural talent. Today, we operate from our warehouse location next to the Keller Williams building in Maple Grove with plenty of parking.

We read your card message before designing your arrangement. Sending flowers for a pet who passed? We adjust the design. Writing an apology? We make sure the flowers match the moment. For funeral work, we take the person's life and incorporate it into the bouquet. Bring us their fishing gear, knitting needles, or pickleball paddle. We'll create an arrangement that honors their actual life.

Victor passed away in February 2014 at age 51. Anna kept the business running. The shop continues with Victor's approach: read the card, understand the moment, make it personal.
